Enjoying my bonsai trees a lot!
posted this review on September 8, 2014

It’s fun having these bonsai trees in the home and knowing that I made them myself. I started loving bonsai trees when I was in the university, and my roommate had one. I just fell in love with the way it calmed me down after a long hard day. When I found Bonsai Gardening Secrets, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to learn how to create my own bonsai trees, and this was indeed helpful in teaching me everything, at least when it comes to the basics, that I need to know. Bonsai Gardening Secrets is definitely highly recommended to those who want to get into bonsai gardening the fast and easy way.

Perfect for bonsai beginners
Keiko Alcaraz (from Ventura, USA) posted this review on April 1, 2014

If you haven’t discovered yet the beauty of bonsai gardening, it’s time you get into it. It’s very relaxing! Search for Japanese Zen gardens on the Internet, and I’m sure you’d see a lot of good photos, and you’d be convinced to try this. I learned about Bonsai Gardening Secrets just recently, although I’ve been bonsai gardening for almost 3 years now. If I’d found this years ago, this would have been my favorite bonsai gardening course. It’s got all the important points to remember when you’re getting started with bonsai gardening. I also noticed that Bonsai Gardening Secrets is a lot cheaper than most other bonsai courses both online and offline. Aside from bonsai gardening courses being hard to come by these days, it’s even harder to find ones that have good quality. That’s why I think this is a treasure among the many mediocre bonsai courses you’ll see online. Lastly, the book is presented in an interesting and entertaining way. The bonsai course I used when I was just getting started 3 years ago is nothing compared to this. I regret not discovering this when I was just starting out. So if you’re a bonsai beginner looking for the perfect way to get started with bonsai gardening, I’d highly recommend Bonsai Gardening Secrets.

Perfect for beginners

These “secrets” are actually basics, at least for my level. I’ve been into bonsai for almost 5 years now. My interest sparked when I went to Japan, and saw a zen garden with plenty of these little trees in them. I felt so relaxed. And although my home doesn’t have space enough for a zen garden, it can house a few bonsai trees. That’s when I got started with bonsai through painstaking research and making connections. It was tough for me because I didn’t have a course like this at that time. Everything you can learn from this book in one sitting took me years and so much effort to learn. And I also spent a lot of money on the first bonsai seminar that I attended. It was crazy! When I got this, I wasn’t really thinking of learning anything new since I knew from the start that it was gonna be for beginners, but I have to admit I still learned a few tips and tricks from here. I also got some design ideas that are easy to follow. This is something that I’d recommend to bonsai beginners. Don’t hesitate anymore, try this right away! You might end up wasting money on scam materials that are so rampant online these days.

I love the guide a lot

I fell in love with bonsai when my office buddy gave me one as a retirement gift. It’s a really lovely plant that I cherish with all my heart until now. It’s still my favorite because of its sentimental value and because it’s what got me started on the art of bonsai. Bonsai Gardening Secrets is the first guide I got on growing bonsai plants. It’s really amazing how this explains the entire process of growing bonsai plants. It starts from the very basic, so it’s perfect for beginners. Another awesome thing about bonsai is that you don’t have to spend much on your equipment. Some people say this art is expensive, but you just have to know where to get your tools and your plants, and you also have to know how to improvise. Since I retired, this became my favorite hobby. My husband and I have set up our own little bonsai zen garden where we relax. It’s got amazing healing properties. It also feels great nurturing life. Seeing those plants flourish in their tiny pots is amazing, styling them gives me back the feeling I used to have when I was styling my daughters’ hair back when they were little. It could be my mom instinct kicking in. If you’ve never tried bonsai art before, I strongly suggest you download this book because you’ll learn so much from this and I’m sure it will make you fall in love with bonsai too!

Made our first bonsai project a success
posted this review on January 5, 2014

My husband and I got into bonsai gardening because of his mother. She’s been collecting bonsai since my husband was young. We decided to practice with one plant as a gift for her 60th birthday. And it went really well because of the techniques we learned from this book. This book is amazing and very generous when it comes to ideas. The guide is really complete and it’s written exactly for beginners. You will learn everything here from the terminologies, to the best plants to use, to where to get them, and how to get started. Our first bonsai project was successful because of this.

The books is really easy to understand
Tyra Frost (from Wiscasset, USA) posted this review on October 30, 2013

I had my first bonsai plant when I was 12 years old, a gift from my dad. My father was very interested in bonsai plants because he lived in Japan for a few years before. My fascination with bonsai plants started to grow from there. I used to collect bonsai plants because I thought it was too difficult to plant my own. And then I heard about Bonsai Gardening Secrets from a bonsai artist I used to buy plants from. I’ve bought 3 of my plants from him, and they’re all lovely. He introduced me to this book because he also sells bonsai seedlings and other bonsai tools.

The book is so easy to understand. I finished the book in one sitting and I got really excited for my first plant. The first project I did was very simple. My bonsai’s theme is very oriental. I haven’t decided on a final look for it yet because I’m waiting for it to grow a little more. Once you learn the trimming and bending tips and tricks from this book, achieving whatever design or look you want becomes a lot easier.

Bonsai Gardening Secrets sure is packed with information. You can get almost anything and everything you need to learn from this guide.

Sadly, it's only for beginners
Mary Cooper (from London, UK) posted this review on June 2, 2013

This has been a disappointment for me because I expected it to be an intermediate to advanced level book, but it’s very basic. If I were a beginner, I would have liked this. Sadly, I’ve been into bonsai gardening for 5 years now, and I already know the basic information here. I want to be fair, so I’m still giving this a high rating because it’s a mistake on my part. I did learn some new tricks here that I haven’t discovered yet on my own, but it’s still not worth $20. I highly recommend the information on choosing your first bonsai tree and bonsai gardening for busy people. The bonsai gardening stores written in this book are also great. I’ve checked out a few of them, and they offer high-quality tools at low prices. Again, this is something I’d recommend for NEW bonsai gardening enthusiasts. If you think you’re already beyond your beginner days, don’t bother with this guide anymore.

Perfect guide for bonsai basics
posted this review on June 2, 2013

I’ve been playing around with bonsai since I was in high school, but when I left home, I didn’t have time for it anymore. I just totally forgot about it until my recent visit to mom’s house reminded me of this old hobby. I scoured the internet for some good bonsai resources. Sadly, there are only a few. I wonder why they can write a hundred books about sex, and just a few good ones about this lovely art. *sigh*

I’m still a bit lucky I found Bonsai Gardening Secrets. There are a lot of tips here for new bonsai hobbyists. The book is fully-illustrated, so I really see how the plants should look like after I’ve worked my magic on them. I also got to choose the best trees to work on for my lifestyle and my location. Basically, everything you need to know to get started is here, but they’re just basics. I have two plants I’m caring for now, a Japanese Maple and a Satsuki Azalea and I think I’m doing it right.

This is newbie friendly, really nice
posted this review on April 10, 2013

I like Bonsai Gardening Secrets because It’s newbie friendly, but it’s got bonsai designs that really rock! I got started with bonsai just a few months ago, but I can already come up with nice work, and this is the only guide I learned from.

One of my go-to guides
posted this review on March 11, 2013

Being a bonsai gardener is very fulfilling and it’s my own personal therapy. It’s relaxing especially if you have a tiny zen fountain in your bonsai garden. I just have to sit there after a hard day’s work, and everything just floats away.

About Bonsai Gardening Secrets, it’s one of my go-to guides. I’ve almost memorized it because I have a copy in my garden, where I do the twisting and turning and tying of branches and cutting of leaves. I usually have it open in front of me for inspiration. My printout is actually work out now because of too much use. I love it even if there are some principles or ideas that I don’t agree with. I have been into this bonsai thing for a longer time now, so I’ve already developed my own style. If you’re a beginner, this will be just right for you.

Love this book!
posted this review on March 3, 2013

Bonsai Gardening Secrets really taught me how to grow these beautiful tiny trees that now adorn my little garden. I’ve always been fascinated by bonsai, and now I can do it myself because of this book. This is the only material I’ve used and I attended no formal training whatsoever.

It's really worth buying
S. Yards (from Bevington, USA) posted this review on February 10, 2013

This step-by-step bonsai guide is awesome for beginners. There are plenty of bonsai ideas that are really easy. I felt so proud with the outcome of my first bonsai plants. I got 2 new bonsai plants that look really good. It’s like the ones you can buy in stores for hundreds of dollars. Hahahaha! They look really expensive. The book has got a lot of pictures, so the instructions are easier to follow. Trust me, this book is different from the free guides you will see everywhere on the internet. This is clearer, the designs are better. It’s all in all worth buying. I thought before that it was really difficult to come up with lovely bonsai plants, but I was wrong. It’s all in the training you get and the guide you follow. This gets 10 stars from me!

Will teach you everything you need to know the fun way
Glenda Meeks (from Isabel, USA) posted this review on January 13, 2013

I’ve created a lot of lovely bonsai plants using the techniques in Bonsai Gardening Secrets. There are so many styles that beginners can try. I started out with those styles, and eventually, I was able to come up with my own variations. I wanted to take formal bonsai classes back then but I decided not to because they’re too expensive. I’m glad I settled for this book. I wasn’t expecting much from it at first but the knowledge I gained here coupled with my passion for these little trees helped me learn so quickly. The book has only a few pages, but those pages are packed with information. I prefer that to something that’s got a lot of pages but more fillers than actual information. It’s really easy to learn too because the book doesn’t use jargon. It’s a really fun book to learn from! Try it.

Simple book, very easy to follow
posted this review on December 8, 2012

I learned a lot from this book! It’s really simple but the instructions and illustrations are so clear. I couldn’t find a reputable bonsai teacher or instructor or whatever the hell you call that, but this book is enough for me to learn. I’ve been buying bonsai plants for years but it’s only now that I got to try it on my own, and I’d say the work I came up with are pretty good. This is a very relaxing hobby to try. Highly recommend it!

The instructions are very easy to follow! Love this book!
posted this review on November 1, 2012

Easy to follow is the keyword here! I tried orchid gardening before, but my hands are not made for such delicate plans. I tried bonsai gardening because it seems better suited for rough hands like mine that can twist and turn those little branches. The book has detailed instructions and pictures that show me exactly what I need to do to come up with lovely bonsai plants. The first plants I designed are just average-looking, so I just display them at home for my guests to admire. The ones I can make now look a lot better. In fact, a zen shop bought three of my works! They told me to send pictures of my masterpieces from time to time. That’s wonderful considering that I learned how to do it only from this book, and I didn’t get any special training for it!

For beginner and intermediate level bonsai enthusiasts
Vincent Keefe (from Pleasanton, USA) posted this review on August 23, 2012

This bonsai guide is perfect for beginners since it’s easy to follow, and its instructions do not use much jargon. I’m not that new to bonsai, but I also found a lot of information here helpful. There are tips and tricks in here that I’ve never read about in other bonsai manuals. Plus, the pictures included in the book made everything much easier to follow. For each style included in the manual, there are detailed care instructions, and there are a lot of other information that can help grow lovely trees in no time. I definitely love the book, and it’s helped me improved the quality of the trees I work with. This book I a gem and I recommend it for beginner to intermediate level bonsai enthusiasts. Those in the advanced level may find some of the pages here a waste, so I think they should find more complicated books to work with.

My first and favorite bonsai guide
Shelly Ann Barlow (from Coral Springs, USA) posted this review on July 16, 2012

My first lessons in bonsai gardening I learned from this book. It’s easy to follow, and it sparked my budding interest for bonsai the moment I started reading it. I’ve been with this book from the early stages of my learning, and I still consult it from time to time, now that I’m already teaching bonsai to other enthusiasts. This book is a great start for beginners.

"One of the best bonsai books"

I've read quite a few books on the subject (most of them outdated from the library), but this is one of the best bonsai books I've ever read!

Wow

After spending all last month trying to figure out why my ficus (bonsai) was dying, I'm so glad I found this book. It took me about half an hour to realize I've been going about taking care of it all wrong.
