Desktop Mates are animated human-like characters that reside on your desktop and function as personal assistants. They can speak and perform many different tasks, such as dial a phone number and fire up your web browser.
The program uses Microsoft Agent and artificial technologies to do all the tasks. Desktop Mates will not run as a standalone program - you need Microsoft Agent and artificial technologies, such as CyberBuddy or Answerpad, to get the characters to appear on your desktop and do what you want them to do.
