Even though ear training is one of the most important aspects of music education, it is most often ignored. But without proper ear training it will be hard for any musician to play by ear, improvise, transcribe music by hearing, or join in with the band. So if you are a self-thought musician, or if your music school doesn't provide quality ear training classes, you might want to try EarMaster Pro (you can download the demo version of Ear Master Pro and get 3 weeks of free ear training).
EarMaster Pro was designed to teach you how to identify chords, intervals, chord progressions, scales, modes, etc. by ear alone. There are also special exercises for rhythm and sight-reading. All of the lessons are interactive and get harder as you move along. This way you'll be able to progress at your own speed. If you want, you can practice individual exercises, or utilize one of the Ear Master's tutors. There are two tutors included with the EarMaster Pro - the standard tutor with 440 lessons and a recently added jazz tutor with 211 lessons. The exercises can be additionally customized to your own needs and you can choose which instrument you'd like to practice with (there are 128 instruments and sounds to choose from).
If you would like to create your own tutors or have multiple users access the EarMaster across a network you can purchase an enhanced version of EarMaster, called EarMaster School. It also offers improved user statistics.
EarMaster Pro is widely regarded as (one of) the best ear training software and has been for years. It is available for Windows 98, 2000, Me, XP, Vista and Mac OS X.

EarMaster 5 is a great aoftware for eartraining. It's really made for the modern musician. Suddenly ear training gets fun, and the way the exercises are made very quickly makes you compete with yourself. From the ear raining software I how tried out, EarMaster is FAR the best. I can recommend it for everybody who wants to get a better "musical ear".

EarMaster Pro - review
ON-SITE Review
I am a music lover - not a musician - and a medical man, playing for my own pleasure piano which I started in my fifth decade. I have to C O N G R A T U L A T E the team for a sterling work on the ear training. Since I have downloaded the trial program from the Internet it kept me absorbed already several nights close to the dawn. It is Brilliant!!! I have great a difficulty to detach myself from my laptop. It is un-put-downable! What a great use of the IT in music.
P.S.: My only regret is that I have found the program so late. It is worth all money and then some.
