EarMaster Pro is an interactive ear training software. It is intended for all musicians, instrumentalists, singers and composers, and will help you improve your ear no matter what your current level of expertise.

Even though ear training is one of the most important aspects of music education, it is most often ignored. But without proper ear training it will be hard for any musician to play by ear, improvise, transcribe music by hearing, or join in with the band. So if you are a self-thought musician, or if your music school doesn't provide quality ear training classes, you might want to try EarMaster Pro (you can download the demo version of Ear Master Pro and get 3 weeks of free ear training - to do so, click on the "Go to the product's homepage" link below).

EarMaster Pro was designed to teach you how to identify chords, intervals, chord progressions, scales, modes, etc. by ear alone. There are also special exercises for rhythm and sight-reading. All of the lessons are interactive and get harder as you move along. This way you'll be able to progress at your own speed. If you want, you can practice individual exercises, or utilize one of the Ear Master's tutors. There are two tutors included with the EarMaster Pro - the standard tutor with 440 lessons and a recently added jazz tutor with 211 lessons. The exercises can be additionally customized to your own needs and you can choose which instrument you'd like to practice with (there are 128 instruments and sounds to choose from).

If you would like to create your own tutors or have multiple users access the EarMaster across a network you can purchase an enhanced version of EarMaster, called EarMaster School. It also offers improved user statistics.

EarMaster Pro is widely regarded as (one of) the best ear training software and has been for years. It is available for Windows 98, 2000, Me, XP, Vista, 7 and Mac OS X.

Great software for ear training!
cjensen (from Egaa, Denmark) posted this review on January 29, 2009

EarMaster 5 is a great aoftware for eartraining. It's really made for the modern musician. Suddenly ear training gets fun, and the way the exercises are made very quickly makes you compete with yourself. From the ear raining software I how tried out, EarMaster is FAR the best. I can recommend it for everybody who wants to get a better "musical ear".

It's an awesome software!
posted this review on December 2, 2012

This is an awesome ear training software. I’m a self-taught guitarist, so I’m only familiar with chords. I wanted to take my playing to the next level and EarMaster Pro is now helping me do that. I’ve already learned a lot through the tutors included here. I’m just using the standard tutors now, then I’ll try jazz, but it’s not really my genre, so I’ll probably skip it and go straight to EarMaster School. I’ll just try jazz for the experience. This software is really light on the computer too, so if you’re running an older machine like I am, there’s no need to worry.

So many lessons that are well-explained and organized
posted this review on October 20, 2012

This isn’t just a software as some of you might think. It’s actually an entire course on identifying chords just by listening to them. If you’re a musician, especially if you work with a band, and if you get some gigs and bars and other places where people might request songs for you to play, it’s very important to have this skill handy. I’m a self-taught musician, so I didn’t get any training like this in the past. This course is the only one I learned from and I learned quite quickly because of its organized presentation of lessons and clear instructions. The ear training exercises really work. Also, you get to assess your improvement as you go along. You don’t need a coach or anyone else to see your improvement because you will be able to check it on your own as you go along, but having someone giving feedback is always great. There are so many lessons here that you can use regardless of your current musical level. I’m sure you’ll find something worthwhile from here.

Helped me improve as a musician
Lloyd Earnst (from Judith Gap, USA) posted this review on December 17, 2012

EarMaster Pro helped me improve my weakness as a musician. Now, I can play any song by ear, and I can also come up with awesome renditions for most songs. I can also identify the slightest differences between sounds, and I owe all that to EarMaster Pro. A++ product for musicians!

for all musicians and aspiring musicians
posted this review on July 4, 2012

This is one of a kind! It is definitely worth the money since it covers different musical instruments in one software. Me and my jam buddies use it during sessions and we all like it. It takes a while to get used to the customization features but once you get it to work with your musical style it’s great. There is still so much more to explore in this, but I’m planning to get the EarMaster School software once I get bored with this. I think it will be so much more fun to use considering it’s an enhanced version of this.

Awesome product for self-taught musicians
Dean Stanley (from Yatesboro, USA) posted this review on September 30, 2012

I think this is the best ear mastery product on the Internet. It doesn’t only have high quality lessons and exercises, it also covers a lot of instruments, so you really get the most bang for your buck. I am a self-taught musician, and I play the basics of different instruments. This resource helps me advance to more advanced playing styles without needing the help of a professional music teacher. I don’t have money to spend for that, but I got the passion and the desire to learn, so this product is enough for me. I agree that it’s hard to call yourself a musician if you don’t know how to play by ear, so I plan to master this for the guitar and for the keyboard before I start forming a band with some other beginners who might want to start a music career soon.

I recommend this to my students
Bernice Wong (from Kent, USA) posted this review on August 13, 2012

I’m a piano teacher, and I’m always on the lookout for stuff that can make learning easier for my students. I offer mostly short-term classes for piano beginners, and most of my students want something they can practice with after graduating from my class. This software is among those I find helpful. I tested it out myself first before recommending it to my students. Most of the students I’ve asked to use this told me that they liked it. Although it’s not enough to learn everything there is to know about music, it helps a lot. The ear training exercises are brilliant. In fact, I’ve already incorporated some of them in my actual piano training classes. The exercises make learning fun and easy at the same time. Since the software covers different musical instruments, it’s even more useful for those who are learning more than one instrument at a time. I’ve also tried the Ear Master School, and it’s useful if you want to work with other people, and if you are on the advanced level.

It's great but they should have mobile support
E. Porter (from Farmington, USA) posted this review on January 21, 2014

I enjoyed this software greatly. I find it easier to ear train with the help of this. I’ve tried ear training on my own following instructions on the Internet but it was too complicated for me. With the help of this software, ear training became much easier for me. I now train 3 times a week about an hour a day with the help of this software. The only downside here is that I need to have my laptop handy when training and that’s not possible all the time. It’s a bit addictive too. Sometimes I go beyond my allotted hour for the training and I just forget about all my homework and research and all other stuff I need to do. It’s great for self-taught musicians, but I hope they offer it on Android or iOS too so I can use it on my tablet or my iPad. It’s easier that way for most aspiring musicians because we only slip our hobby into our daily activities, and we’re usually out and about. I’m speaking not just from personal experience but also from those of my buddies in the band and other bands that I know of. A lot of us have this but some of them got put off because of the lack of mobile device support or whatever you call that.

Can't stop playing because of this!
posted this review on December 8, 2013

I can’t stop playing the guitar because of everything I learned from Earmaster. This guide has a lot of techniques that can make you go from an ordinary player to an excellent one. I have been learning to play the guitar for almost 2 years now. I’m mostly self-taught. I rely on internet stuff to learn. Earmaster Pro and Earmaster School are two of my favorites. There are great pre-made “tutors” here but you can also customize them so you can focus on your weaknesses. I’ve made my own tutors that are a lot better than the premade ones. I can spend the entire day using Earmaster. I feel like I make the most out of my practice time by using this. It’s so fun I don’t even feel like I’m working on something. I sometimes prepare practicing on my own to jamming with a band because I can decide on exactly what I want to do and I don’t have to think about what others want. That’s just me. I only practice with a band when I really have to. I will work with Earmaster until I’m sure that I’m ready to play professionally.

My friends and I like this
Chinee Jackson (from Electra, USA) posted this review on December 16, 2013

When my mom got me this I thought it was not gonna help, but now I see that it’s really good for ear training. It’s just hard to get accustomed to it at first especially when you’re used to learning alone, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier and easier to learn. I use this with my friends sometimes when we’re practicing. They like it too and they got theirs.

Helped me grow as a musician
posted this review on January 12, 2014

I wasn’t born a musician, so ear training was the most difficult part for me to learn. I know some people who can get a tune from the moment they could here, but I wasn’t like them. EarMaster Pro has been really helpful. It has taught me a lot and helped me grow as a musician. The quality is great, and the price isn’t bad either.

This helped me grow so much as a musician
Eliana Porter (from Fort Monroe, USA) posted this review on February 8, 2014

I don’t know why some people don’t like this because I really think it’s an amazing piece of software for beginners. I’ve really learned how to catch sounds and recreate them, and that’s something I thought would take a long time because I’m proudly 100% self-taught. Because of EarMaster Pro, I now feel more confident in my skills, and practice time has become a lot more fun for me. When I was just starting out, practicing alone was a pain, but now I enjoy it even if my friends aren’t around. I’d say I’ve grown so much as a musician, and it’s all because of EarMaster Pro.

I enjoy training with this
posted this review on April 7, 2013

EarMaster Pro has its pros and cons but there are more pros than cons and it’s less than a hundred dollars, so I’d say it’s worth the money. The software is interactive, so you will not get bored using it. You will learn a number of different things from it with hard work and determination. Learning music can never happen with a push of a button no matter how awesome your software is, but with EarMaster Pro it can be so much easier. The lessons here are organized based on difficulty, and as you progress, you get tougher and tougher exercises. That’s a good thing because personally, I didn’t get overwhelmed. You can also easily customize your lessons, so if you can dictate your own pace. This is something I’d definitely recommend for beginners, but for intermediate to more advanced students, this may not be too helpful. I hope in the future they’ll come up with special devices (like simulation keyboards and guitars) that you can plug on your computer to make your learning more like the real thing. But I don’t know if that’s possible.

This really taught me how to play by ear
posted this review on June 17, 2014

This is one of the best music software I’ve seen on the Internet and it serves a unique purpose too, which is ear training. I’ve been wanting to learn how to play by ear for so long, but I had no idea how. It seemed to me like a talent that I naturally didn’t have. But with EarMaster Pro, I really learned how to play by ear. I learned in just a month. I’m not that good yet and I have to listen to a piece several times before I get it right, but that’s already a big improvement from the way I was before. EarMaster Pro is surely worth the investment.

EarMaster Pro - review

I am a music lover - not a musician - and a medical man, playing for my own pleasure piano which I started in my fifth decade. I have to C O N G R A T U L A T E the team for a sterling work on the ear training. Since I have downloaded the trial program from the Internet it kept me absorbed already several nights close to the dawn. It is Brilliant!!! I have great a difficulty to detach myself from my laptop. It is un-put-downable! What a great use of the IT in music.

P.S.: My only regret is that I have found the program so late. It is worth all money and then some.

"Essential Tool"

I'm am currently in my third year at Queensland Conservatorium in Jazz Studies and just before aural/listening exams my computer and this fantastic program certainly takes a pounding. It has been an essential tool in the development of my musical ear..
