Good for SOME kids
posted this review on October 24, 2013

I think it depends on the child whether or not Fun With Figures will help him learn mathematics. It depends on a child’s unique learning style. To say that this will work for all children is an exaggeration. There are kids who are more visual, some are more verbal, some need social activities to learn. But this is a good resource, so I’m not flunking it. It’s just that I think it’s not as great as others claim it to be.

The techniques are practical even for adults

Being the dad, I’m supposed to handle math, while mom handles arts and other girly stuff. But I’m not really good at math and even worse at teaching. My daughter’s math lessons are still very simple but I can’t translate my thoughts into words that she can understand. I know what to do, but I just can’t put them into words. I’m sure it’s the same for most other parents. Special techniques should be used when teaching kids math, and I think I learned the best techniques here. My daughter enjoys our math time now more than ever. Her mom also tries the techniques here because they’re really practical if you want to learn to compute quickly without the need for a calculator. This is something that will be helpful for both adults who suck at math and for of course, children. I realize now that the best way to teach them is to look for something they’d really enjoy, and something that’s unique, which they can show off to their friends.

My niece and I have so much fun with this
Elena Bradley (from Los Angeles, USA) posted this review on September 12, 2013

I tutor my niece part-time for my sister. She gives me allowance for that. The main reason why she hired me as the tutor is because I’m a math maniac and my niece is more into the artsy side of things. She’s really terrible at math. Even if math is very easy for me, it’s difficult to teach. I get so frustrated sometimes when my niece can’t understand something I find so simple. I’m like, how can you not know that?! Fun With Figures is what I used to help her do mental calculations and enjoy math more. When I get frustrated, she gets even more disappointed in herself, and she hates math a lot more. I don’t want to lose my job, so I have to think of these unique strategies to make her love math. Fun With Figures is very simple, but believe it or not, there are a lot of methods here I also had no idea about before. My niece enjoys showing off what we learn here to her classmates. The mental computation techniques really make her look like a badass mathematician to her 3rd grade classmates. This boosts her confidence, and I can see that she likes math a lot more now than before. Good job to the writers of this book!

At 32 years old, I still learned a lot from this

If you think Fun With Figures is just for kids, think again. I first got a hold of this because of my daughter. She’s having a tough time learning math, but when I saw what’s inside, I got so interested to try it too. The “ancient” math secrets here are probably not that ancient, but they do help a lot. I’m not that good at math either, but these are just so awesome! I’ve learned so many shortcuts on how to do a lot of calculation. How I wish I had this when I was younger. The good thing is that my daughter seems to be enjoying math a lot more now than before. At least my daughter won’t have to be math impaired for most of her life like I had been.

An entirely new approach to learning math
posted this review on June 9, 2013

I’m 24 yrs. old, and I suck at math. It was my weakness when I was still in school, and it still is until now. I’ve had tutorials back in high school, but it didn’t last long because it was too expensive. Now that I’m 24, I just thought of giving math one last go using Fun With Figures. This learning material has a different approach in teaching math. It features easy to remember shortcuts for people who aren’t numerically gifted. It’s got tips on making mental math easier. Most of the tips are for practical uses. There are no calculus or trigonometry lessons here. Just the math stuff you need to function normally everyday. If my teacher taught me math this way years ago, I wouldn’t have had to cheat my way through it.

A lot of shortcuts and workarounds
posted this review on April 29, 2013

This goes back to the basics of math, so you can learn it more easily. I skipped many math classes when I was in middle school and high school. I didn’t have too many maths in college either. I got this for my kids, but I’m also enjoying learning from it because it brings me back to the stuff I missed before and give me workarounds to different problems. I’m like “so that’s how simple it is!” every time I get something right. This is great for kids and for parents who are math dummies as well.

My daughters seem to be enjoying math a little more

Both of my daughters are afraid of math. It’s the family’s greatest weakness. Their dad isn’t good at math either. As their mom, I thought it was my responsibility to help spark their interest in numbers, so I got them Fun With Figures. We study together whenever we have the chance, and they probably get a little less scared when they see me learning with them. This way of learning math is definitely fun. I can see them putting more effort into their learning because of this book. I highly recommend this if you got kids in the home who don’t enjoy learning math. This might as well change their minds about it.

My son and I are learning together

Fun With Figures is definitely a fun way to learn mental calculations and all other math stuff. I use this to teach math to my 10 year old and he gets everything better because of the patterns. He used to hate math so much but when I started teaching him through Fun With Figures, I can see that he’s enjoying it now. Another great thing about Fun With Figures is that it covers the basics of everything, so it’s like I’m relearning too while teaching my son. It’s never too late! Hahahaha! Now I can do most computations without using a calculator. It’s really fun if that’s what you’re looking for. You will enjoy practicing using the drills in the book. I tweak them a little from time to time for my son. It’s also fulfilling seeing my son learn. I don’t teach him other subjects because he does pretty well with them, so seeing him enjoying learning with me and actually getting what I teach him makes me so proud.

My son has improved a lot!

Math is really a challenging subject for my son, so when I found out that there’s a book like this I got it right away. I had it printed then bound, so my son can use it in school. The shortcuts and the smart techniques are definitely awesome! Even I haven’t heard about these techniques when I was in school. I read the book too from time to time because I learn a lot from it. My son’s also impressed with what he learned from this book. He said it’s made math a lot easier for him, and the teacher said that he’s one of the best in the subject. I never thought it was possible because before, he used to cry when I force him to study math. Now he asks me to buy random math books because he enjoys it so much. Fun With Figures really provided him with a good foundation. I’m happy that I gave this book a chance.

Made math really easy for me!

Fun With Figures has awesome mental calculation techniques! I am naturally stupid in math but with the tips and tricks here, I seem like a genius. I surprise people with my calculation skills! It’s really easy once you get to read this book.

Makes math a little more enjoyable
posted this review on October 22, 2012

I think this book will be perfect for learners who are having difficulties in math. I’ve been that kind of learner when I was younger. I was interested in math, but just naturally not good at it. I was leaning towards language, so math has always been my weakest point this would have helped me then, but oh well. Now, I got this for my daughter. She’s just like me, and she loves this book. She said her friends iin school were surprised with her unique techniques when answering exercises in school. Even her teacher asked her once how she was able to do their activity so quickly. I think this book taught her to work smart instead of hard. This also covers almost all the basic stuff she has to learn in math to really spark up her interest in it. If you’re finicky with what you let your children read or study, I suggest having their math teacher look at this first. I’m sure they won’t see any problems in it.

This works even for old people but you have to practice
Macky G. (from Anchorage, USA) posted this review on August 13, 2012

If you’re wondering if this works for older people, it does. I’m 32, and I’m really terrible at math, so I went ahead and gave this program a try. It’s a really good decision, since the shortcuts make the work much easier. The only con here is that you should really be interested in what you’re learning and practice a lot, or else it won’t work. I think it’s just the same for all kinds of things you want to learn. Personally, I really wanted to learn math, but I needed a good material to practice with, which this provided me with. I suggest purchasing this only if you are willing to spend some extra time and effort working on your skills. This isn’t just memorization, you still need to hone your thinking skills because math is that way and this course won’t change that. It’s only a guide, a good learning material that makes learning easier and more fun.

moms should get this for their kids!
Emily Ricks (from Reno, USA) posted this review on July 5, 2012

I’ve always sucked at math. I don’t want my daughter to suffer the same fate, so I make sure to provide her with everything she needs to learn math easily. I have here a pile of books, some she has read, but a lot more she didn’t find interesting. I also download for her math software, print her flashcards, and I try as hard as I can to homeschool her on it. I do provide her support for other subjects too, but math is also her weak point so I make sure to give more importance to it.

When I got my daughter this book, I was surprised at how interested she was in it. She asked me to print and bind it so she can show it to her friends in school. I’m so happy I found this book, and I hope they release more like this.

An invaluable tool...

I have found Fun with Figures an invaluable tool in simplifying the way we do math calcs. I have started exposing my children to the techniques, and they are so much easier than the way they are being taught at school.

I think that everyone should have Fun With Figures and I think that Parents should be teaching these methods to their kids.

I have found this extremely interesting

As a math teacher I have found this extremely interesting and have used the techniques with my Year 8 group (age 12/13) who are below average at maths. I taught them the basic techniques from the e-book which they found fun and comments like: 'This is well easy!' 'This is fun' were going around the room.

I have found myself using the techniques in everyday situations, especially the multiplication. These techniques are also something the top sets can use in their coursework to show different methods of doing things.

I was most impressed with the book and shall continue to use it with future groups - especially those who find traditional techniques more difficult.
